Detailed Plot Outline
Guests are gathered at the Pendle Inn, a quaint tavern in the heart of the village of Barley, for a secret meeting. The village is abuzz with fear and suspicion as the infamous Pendle witch trials loom. The local magistrate, Thomas Covell, has called the meeting to discuss the latest accusations and decide the fates of the accused witches.
As the evening unfolds, a storm brews outside, and tensions run high within the tavern. Suddenly, a scream echoes through the room – Thomas Covell has been found dead in the locked study, with no clear sign of how he was killed. Was it the work of witches or someone with a more earthly motive?
Twist: As the investigation progresses, it is revealed that Thomas Covell was not the man he appeared to be. He had a dark past and was involved in a secret society that sought to control the village through fear and manipulation. Clues found in his study suggest he was planning to expose a powerful figure involved in the conspiracy, but someone silenced him first. The guests must uncover who among them had the most to lose by Covell’s revelations.
