Study the Study

(Jennet unfolds the piece of parchment and holds it up.)

"I found this letter in the study the next morning. It mentions a past event, something that happened years ago during the Pendle Witch Trials. The letter is addressed to Mr. Covell and warns him to keep his findings to himself, or there would be dire consequences. The letter is signed with the initials E.D."

(She looks directly at the guests, her eyes wide with fear.)

"I believe this letter holds the key to understanding why Mr. Covell was killed. The initials E.D. belong to Elizabeth Device. She was one of the accused witches from the Pendle Trials. But... there's more. I also overheard Mr. Covell mention a hidden journal, where he documented everything he had discovered. He said it was hidden in a place only he would know."

(Jennet takes a step back, her hands trembling.)

"I know I'm just a servant girl, but I have always tried to be observant and discreet. I hope this information can help you find the truth. The journal must be somewhere in this house. If you can find it, perhaps it will lead you to the person responsible for Mr. Covell's death."

Host: "Thank you, Jennet. Your bravery is commendable, and your information invaluable. Ladies and gentlemen, it appears we must find this hidden journal to uncover the full truth. Let us work together to solve this mystery and bring justice to Mr. Covell."

Host: "Ladies and gentlemen, we have a crucial witness who may shed light on the dark events that have transpired. Please welcome Jennet Preston, a loyal servant of this household."

Jennet's Speech:

(Jennet steps forward, clutching a small piece of parchment in her hands. She takes a deep breath before speaking, her voice trembling slightly.)

"Thank you, sir. I... I don't usually speak in front of so many people, but there's something important I need to share. I have served in this manor for several years now, and in that time, I have heard and seen many things. Things that I believe are connected to the tragic death of Mr. Thomas Covell."

(She pauses, glancing around the room before continuing.)

"On the night of the murder, I was in the study, cleaning, when I overheard a heated argument between Mr. Covell and another person. They were speaking in hushed tones, but I could make out some of the words. Mr. Covell mentioned something about a letter and a secret he had uncovered."
